Unhindered — Privacy Policy
For The Trellis and The Hearth.
Last updated: October 21, 2026
Unhindered LLC ("Company", "Unhindered", "we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it through our compliance with this policy. This policy describes how we collect, process, retain, and disclose personal data about you when providing our apps (The Trellis, our spiritual-formation and accountability platform, and The Hearth, our app for small groups, friendships, and the churches that care for them) through our web portal, our mobile applications, and related products and services that link to this policy (our "Services"), and our practices for using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.
One Unhindered account works across our apps. Sections about The Trellis describe The Trellis; the section on The Hearth describes The Hearth; everything else applies to both.
This policy applies only to information we collect through the Services and in communications between you and the Services. It does not apply to information collected by us offline or through any other means, or by any third party, including through any application or content that may link to or be accessible from the Services.
Please read this policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your information and how we treat it. By interacting with our Services or providing us with your information, you agree to the collection, use, and sharing of your information as described in this policy. This policy may change from time to time (see Changes to Our Privacy Policy). Your continued use of the Services after we make changes is deemed to be acceptance of those changes, so please check the policy periodically for updates.
The Short Version
- The Trellis helps you keep a Rule of Life and walk alongside others. Much of what you put in it is personal, so we collect only what the app needs, we never sell it, and we never use it for advertising.
- You decide who sees what. Your Witness sees your Rule of Life and how you are keeping it. Your church's leaders (only if you join your church) see a summary, never your daily answers or your prayers. Nobody else sees your information.
- The Hearth keeps your groups and friendships. Your group sees what you share with it. A church sees how its groups are doing and what leaders choose to share with it, never your group's conversations or prayers. Your friendship notes are yours alone.
- You can delete your account and everything in it at any time.
What's New in This Version
Compared with the version of this policy dated October 7, 2026:
- This policy now also covers The Hearth (see The Hearth).
- Churches can buy a license for The Hearth on our website, processed by Stripe.
- Calendar sharing and your home point for meeting places are one setting shared by both apps.
Children's and Minors' Data
Our Services are not intended for, and we do not knowingly collect any personal data from, children under the age of 18. If we learn we have collected or received personal data from a child under 18 years old without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
In The Hearth, an adult may list their children's first names and birthdays in their group's directory. That information is entered by the parent, is shown only to members of the parent's groups, and can be removed by the parent at any time.
The Trellis: User Roles and Data Boundaries
The Trellis is built around distinct user roles, and the personal data we share depends on your role and on the choices you make:
- Runners are primary users who keep a Rule of Life and check in on their rhythms.
- Witnesses are accountability partners invited by a Runner.
- The Cloud (Church Admins) are congregations or their authorized administrators who oversee a roster of Runners on a business-to-business basis.
Who can see what is described in Who Can See Your Information.
Consumer Health Data Notice
Because the Services involve information that may relate to your physical or mental health status (for example a Rule of Life in The Trellis, or a prayer request or care need in The Hearth), we maintain a separate Consumer Health Data Notice, as contemplated by the Washington My Health My Data Act and similar laws. That separate notice describes the Consumer Health Data we collect, how we use and share it, your rights, and our consent practices.
Our Consumer Health Data Notice is available at unhinderedlives.com/consumer-health-data and is linked prominently, alongside this Privacy Policy, wherever this Privacy Policy is offered (including our website footer, app settings, and signup screens).
The Trellis: What We Collect, and Why
"Personal data" is information that identifies, relates to, or describes, directly or indirectly, you as an individual. We collect the following, only as the Services need it:
Account. Your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider), and your mobile number. Your mobile number is required: it is shown only to the people you are paired with — your Witness, or the Runners you walk with — so they can text you. If you enter a church name or a code from your church or organization, we keep that too. If you buy something on our website, we also receive the buyer's email address and, for a church purchase, the church's name.
Your Rule of Life. The rhythms you choose (for example "read Scripture" or "keep a weekly Sabbath"), any sins you choose to throw off (for example "looking at pornography" or "getting drunk"), how often each is due, which are Anchor Rhythms, the date you committed your Rule, and each daily yes/no check-in. This is the heart of the app. Because some of it can reveal information about your health, habits or struggles, or your religious practice, we treat all of it as sensitive (see Sensitive Personal Information).
Prayer lists. The people and situations you pray for, any details and Scripture you add, when you last prayed, and whether a prayer was answered. You may add a photo for a person on your list; photos are stored privately and shown only to you. A Witness may keep prayers for the Runners they walk with, and a Runner may share prayer requests with their Witness.
Meetings and meeting places. Meetings you propose or accept (date, time, place, activity). If you choose to, your home and work addresses. To suggest a place halfway between you and the person you are meeting, your phone converts your own addresses to map coordinates (rounded to about 100 metres) and our server computes a midpoint rounded to about a kilometre. The other person never receives your address or your coordinates — only the name and address of a suggested coffee shop or restaurant.
Calendar (only if you turn on calendar sharing). With your permission, the app reads the calendars synced to your phone and uploads only the start and end times of your busy periods for the next three weeks — never the title, location, attendees or notes of any event. These are refreshed when you open the app and are used only to show you and the person you are meeting times when you are both free. Turning sharing off deletes them from our servers. (The app reads only calendars synced to your phone's own Calendar app.)
Activity used for Witness alerts. We record when you last opened the app. If you are a Runner with a Witness and you haven't opened the app for a few days, our server sends your phone a silent, invisible check once a day; if your phone reports the app is no longer installed, we let your Witness know you may have stepped away. These signals are used only to send those alerts and are not shown to anyone.
Notifications. A push-notification token for your device, your notification choices, and your reminder times. Daily check-in and prayer reminders are scheduled on your phone itself.
Purchases and codes. If you subscribe in the app, Apple (or Google) processes the payment; we receive only whether your membership is active — never your card details. Purchases on our website are processed by Stripe (see Payment Processing). If someone buys a gift code on our website, we keep the purchaser's email address with the code. When you redeem a gift code on our website, we ask for the code and the email address of your Trellis account, and we record that the code was redeemed for that account.
Feedback and support. If you send feedback or a support request, we receive what you write and basic device information (app version, device model, operating system). You choose whether to include your email address so we can reply.
Requests and sign-ups. If you ask us to notify you when gift memberships open, or request a pilot for your church or organization, we receive what you enter: your email address and, for a pilot request, your name, your church or organization, and any message. We use it only to write back to you or to tell you when gifts open.
App usage analytics. Limited, pseudonymous usage events from the app, described in Product Analytics.
Device and technical information. Like most services, our servers and service providers receive your IP address and basic device, browser, or app information when you use the Services. Our website does not run analytics or advertising trackers; it sets a cookie only to keep you signed in.
We also derive statistical or aggregated information that does not directly identify a specific person, such as aggregate rhythm consistency across a church's roster. If we combine aggregated or technical data with personal data so that it identifies an individual, we treat the combined information as personal data.
How We Collect Your Information
You provide it to us. When you create or update an account, keep your Rule of Life, check in, add prayers, propose or accept meetings, purchase or redeem a code or church membership, invite or accept an invitation as a Witness, join a church, or communicate with us; and, in The Hearth, when you fill in your profile, start or join a group, post, plan or sign up for a gathering, add a friend, suggest a time to meet, or buy a church license.
Automatically through the Services. Device and usage information, as described above and in Product Analytics.
From service providers and the people you are paired with. Limited information from the providers listed under Who Provides Services for Us, information a Witness adds about a Runner they walk with (for example, a prayer for them), and, in The Hearth, what other members share with your group (for example, a prayer request that mentions you).
Sensitive Personal Information
Some of what you put in The Trellis can reveal your religious practice or relate to your health, habits, or struggles — for example rhythms about sleep, exercise, fasting, or sobriety, sins you choose to throw off, your check-ins, prayer requests, and, in The Hearth, prayer requests and care needs shared with your group. This may be "sensitive personal information" or "sensitive data" under applicable state law, and some of it may be Consumer Health Data.
We collect and process this information only as necessary to provide the Services to you, and only with the consent you give when you create your account. We do not use, disclose, or sell it for any purpose beyond providing, maintaining, and securing the Services, unless you separately authorize a broader use.
Where applicable law gives you the right to limit our use of sensitive personal information or to withdraw consent to its collection, you may do so in the app or by contacting us at support@unhinderedlives.com.
The Trellis: Who Can See Your Information
Your Witness(es) — the people you invite with a pairing key — see your name and phone number, your Rule of Life (including any sins to throw off), your check-ins and how you are keeping each rhythm, missed Anchor Rhythms, prayer requests you share with them, and meetings with them. They are told when you miss an Anchor Rhythm, haven't started your Rule, have gone quiet for a few days, may have removed the app, or have deleted your account. A Witness never sees your private prayer photos, your addresses or calendar details, or when you last opened the app.
Runners you walk with (if you are a Witness) see your name, phone number, and the meetings and prayers you share with them.
Your church or organization's leaders — only if you join your church with its code and agree to share (Tier 1 consent) — see a summary in their "Cloud": that you are a member, who your Witness is (or that you do not have one), an overall score and status for how you are keeping your Rule of Life over the season (Full Bloom, Budding, or Drooping), how long it has been since your last check-in, aggregate percentages for the church's shared rhythms, and your contact details so they can reach out.
Witnesses paired with a church member (Tier 2 consent). If the Runner you are invited to walk with belongs to a church, the app asks you to separately opt in to sharing your name, email, and phone number with that church's leaders before you can accept the invitation. If you do not opt in, you do not pair with that Runner, and none of your information is shared with the church. This is a separate consent from our collecting your information to provide the Services.
Each consent is given independently, and you may withdraw yours at any time as described in Your Rights and Choices, although withdrawal does not affect disclosures already made.
Nobody else. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
The Trellis: What Church Leaders and Our Team Never See
Church leaders never see your daily answers, the text of your rhythms, your sins to throw off, or your prayers. These are secured at the database layer using Row Level Security (RLS), which limits each person to their own data and the data shared with them. Unhindered personnel do not access your private content except as strictly necessary to operate, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, or provide the Services, or where required by law.
The Hearth
The Hearth is our app for small groups, one-to-one friendships, and the churches that care for their groups. It uses the same Unhindered account as The Trellis. This section describes what The Hearth collects and who can see it; the rest of this policy (service providers, your rights, security, and so on) applies to it as well.
What The Hearth Collects
Your Hearth profile. If you choose to add them: a short "about" line, your phone number, your address, your birthday and wedding anniversary (month and day only, never the year), and the names and birthdays of your spouse and children for your group's directory. Whether your phone number, address, and email address are shown to others is up to you; each is off until you turn it on.
Your groups. The groups you start or join, your role in each (owner, leader, or member), and what you share there: posts, announcements, comments, reactions, photos, prayer requests, gatherings you plan, the roles and dishes you sign up for, discussion questions, and care needs such as Meal Support and a Care Roster, with the sign-ups for them. If you report a post, we keep the report.
Friends (Circles and Outreach). The friends you add (a name, and a phone number if you choose), how often you hope to connect, when you last did, your private notes about the friendship, and, for people you are choosing to pursue, a log of your attempts to reach out. If a friend is also on The Hearth, you may link your entry to their account.
Finding a time. Meeting suggestions you send or receive (the activity, the times offered, an optional place and note, and the answer). If you turn on calendar sharing, the same busy times described under Calendar for The Trellis: one setting covers both apps, and only start and end times are ever uploaded.
Meeting places. If you add your address, your phone converts it to map coordinates using its own built-in map service (Apple's or Google's); only if that fails do we ask Google Maps Platform. The coordinates are stored privately and are the same home point The Trellis uses for meeting places. To suggest a place halfway between you and a friend, our server computes a midpoint rounded to about a kilometre, and the app asks Google for coffee shops, restaurants, or parks near it, only when you ask for a suggestion. Your friend never receives your address or coordinates.
Your church (only if your group is linked to one). A group's owner or leader may link the group to a church using that church's code. We then record the link, the church's pastors and admins, which groups each pastor cares for, prayer requests a leader shares with them, messages between the group's leaders and the church, and announcements the church sends to its groups.
Church licenses. If you buy a license for your church on our website, we keep the church's name, your account as its admin, the number of groups, and the subscription's status and renewal date from Stripe (see Payment Processing).
Notifications and contacts. A push-notification token for your device, kept separate from The Trellis's, and your notification choices; reminders are scheduled on your phone. "Save to Contacts" opens your phone's own contact screen with a group member's details filled in: we never read or upload your contacts.
No analytics. The Hearth does not collect usage analytics or run advertising or tracking tools.
Who Can See Your Information in The Hearth
Members of your group see your name and role, what you share with the group (each post can be shared with the whole group, with its leaders only, or kept to yourself), gatherings and sign-ups, care needs, and your directory entry: your "about" line, birthday and anniversary (month and day), your family's names and birthdays, and your phone number, address, and email only if you have turned them on. They can see your busy times only if you share your calendar.
Your group's leaders also see posts shared with leaders only, and reports of posts in their group.
Friends. Your Circles, notes, rhythms, and Outreach are private to you. A friend is never told that you added them, and never sees what you wrote. People you are connected to (you share a group, you have linked each other as friends, or you are paired as Witness and Runner in The Trellis) can see your busy times if you share your calendar, and a person you send a meeting suggestion to sees the suggestion and your first name.
Your church's pastors and admins, only for a group linked to their church and only for the groups each pastor is assigned, see: the group's name, size, and how often it meets; when it last gathered and next gathers; the names of its owner and leaders; its members' names and roles, with the phone number, email, and address each member has chosen to share; prayer requests a leader shares with them (the group can see that a request was shared); the Pastoral Support messages between the group's leaders and the church; and the announcements they send.
What church leaders never see in The Hearth: your group's posts, comments, photos, or prayer requests (other than those a leader shares with them), care needs, your Circles, notes, or Outreach, your meeting suggestions, or counts of anyone's posts or activity. This is enforced in the database by Row Level Security, as described above.
Your Choices and Deleting Your Data in The Hearth
- Change or remove your profile, family entries, and sharing choices in the app at any time, and delete posts, comments, and photos you shared.
- Leave a group at any time. What you shared stays in the group's history under your name unless you delete it first or ask us to remove it.
- Remove a friend from your Circles, which deletes your notes and Outreach log for them.
- Delete your account in the app (Settings → Account → Delete account), or by emailing support@unhinderedlives.com. Your Unhindered account is shared by our apps, so this deletes your data from The Hearth and The Trellis alike. Groups you own pass to a leader, or to the longest-standing member; a group with only you in it is deleted. What you shared in groups is removed too if you ask us.
Who Provides Services for Us
We use these companies to run the Services. Each processes data only on our behalf, under its own security and privacy commitments:
- Supabase — database, sign-in, file storage, and server functions.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivers push notifications.
- Google Maps Platform (Places) — address suggestions while you type, turning your own addresses into map coordinates (in The Hearth, only when your phone's own map service cannot), and finding meeting places near a midpoint.
- Apple and Google, through your phone's built-in map service — in The Hearth, turning your own address into map coordinates.
- Apple App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat — in-app subscriptions to The Trellis.
- Stripe — payments on our website, including church licenses for The Hearth (see Payment Processing below).
- PostHog — pseudonymous usage analytics in The Trellis app (The Hearth has none).
- Resend — delivers feedback and support emails to us, and sends purchase confirmations and codes from our website.
We may also disclose personal data:
- To your Witness, your groups, a church's leaders, or other participants, only as described in Who Can See Your Information and Who Can See Your Information in The Hearth.
- To a buyer or other successor in the event of a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of the Company's assets, in which case this policy continues to apply.
- To comply with any court order, law, or legal process, including to respond to any government or regulatory request.
- To enforce or apply our terms of service and other agreements, including for billing and collection purposes.
- If we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Company, our users, or any other person.
- For any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information, or with your consent.
We may disclose aggregated or de-identified information that does not identify any individual without restriction. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share your personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Product Analytics
The Hearth collects no usage analytics. In The Trellis, we use PostHog to collect limited, pseudonymous usage events from the app (for example, "a rhythm was completed," the number of rhythms in a Rule, or which role is being viewed) so we can improve it. These events are tied to a hashed identifier, not your name or email, and never include the text of your rhythms, prayers, or check-ins. Our analytics provider may derive an approximate location (such as a city or region) from your IP address. We use this telemetry only to measure and improve the performance, reliability, and usability of the Services.
How We Use Your Information
We use information that we collect about you or that you provide to us, including personal data, to:
- Provide, maintain, secure, and support the Services and their features.
- Create and administer your account, process purchases and redemptions of memberships and codes, and manage church rosters.
- Enable the accountability relationships you choose, including sharing information with your Witness or with a church's leaders as described above, and sending the alerts and reminders you and your Witness rely on.
- In The Hearth, run your groups and friendships: show what you share to the people you share it with, help you find a time and place to meet, send the reminders and notifications you choose, and give a church the view of its groups described above.
- Communicate with you about your account, membership, and changes to the Services.
- Improve the Services through pseudonymous analytics, as described in Product Analytics.
- Carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us, including for billing and collection.
- Comply with our legal obligations and for safety, security, and fraud prevention.
- For any other purpose with your consent.
Payment Processing
Purchases on our website, including church memberships, gift codes, and church licenses for The Hearth (a yearly subscription per group), are processed by Stripe, Inc. ("Stripe"). Your payment card and billing information are collected and processed directly by Stripe in accordance with Stripe's terms and privacy policy and applicable payment-card industry (PCI) standards. We do not collect or store full payment card numbers. We receive from Stripe only limited transaction information, such as confirmation of payment and the buyer's email address, needed to fulfill your purchase, and for a church license the subscription's status and renewal date. Subscriptions bought inside The Trellis app are processed by Apple or Google, and we receive only whether your membership is active. Nothing is sold inside The Hearth app.
Large Language Model Training Disclosure
We do not collect, use, sell, or share your personal data, Rule of Life, check-ins, prayers, group posts, or friendship notes for the purpose of training large language models or other artificial-intelligence models.
How Long We Keep It
We keep your information for as long as your account exists, and otherwise as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and for safety, security, and fraud prevention. Calendar busy times are replaced every time your phone refreshes them and cover only the coming three weeks.
When you delete your account (Settings → Delete Account), we delete your profile, Rule of Life, check-ins, prayers, photos, meetings, addresses, calendar data, and pairings. Your Witnesses are told that you left; to do that we keep only your first name in their notice, for at most 30 days. Backups held by our providers are overwritten on their normal schedule.
For The Hearth, see Your Choices and Deleting Your Data in The Hearth. Deleting your account deletes your Hearth profile, family entries, friends and notes, meeting suggestions, calendar data, and group memberships.
Your Rights and Choices
- See and change most of your information in the app at any time.
- Turn off calendar sharing, notifications, or individual alerts in the app, and remove your addresses under Meeting Places.
- Remove a Witness in the app. A church connection made with a church code is locked in the app; email us to remove it.
- Delete your account and its data in the app, or ask us at support@unhinderedlives.com.
- Withdraw the consents you gave for sharing with a church (Tier 1 or Tier 2) through the app or by contacting us, subject to disclosures already made.
- Marketing communications. If we send you promotional or marketing emails, you may opt out at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions in the email or by contacting us. You cannot opt out of transactional or account-related communications necessary to provide the Services.
Your State Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live (for example California, Washington, Colorado, Virginia, or the EU or UK), you may have rights related to your personal data, including:
- Access and Data Portability. You may confirm whether we process your personal data and access a copy of it, to the extent feasible and required by law.
- Correction. You may request that we correct inaccuracies in your personal data.
- Deletion. You may request that we delete personal data about you, subject to certain exceptions under applicable law.
- Opt Out of Sales, Targeted Advertising, and Certain Profiling. As noted above, we do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising.
Important: The exact scope of these rights varies by state, and there are exceptions where we may not have an obligation to fulfill your request. To exercise any of these rights, please email us at support@unhinderedlives.com. Some browsers support the Global Privacy Control ("GPC"); when we detect such a signal, we will make reasonable efforts to respect it as required by applicable law.
Non-Discrimination. We will not deny you goods or services, charge you a different price, or provide a different level or quality of service because you exercised any privacy right described in this policy.
Response Timeframe. We will respond to a verifiable request within forty-five (45) days, or as otherwise required by applicable law. If we need more time, we will notify you of the reason and extension period in writing.
Appeals. If we decline to act on your request, you may appeal by replying to our response or emailing support@unhinderedlives.com with "Privacy Appeal" in the subject line. We will respond to your appeal within the time required by applicable law.
How We Protect Your Personal Data
Data is encrypted in transit, and access is limited by database rules so that each person can reach only their own data and the data shared with them. Prayer photos are stored in a private store and shown through short-lived links. We use commercially reasonable administrative, physical, and technical measures designed to protect your personal data from accidental loss or destruction and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. However, no system or online service is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of your personal data. If a breach affects you, we will tell you as the law requires. The safety of your information also depends on you taking steps to protect your credentials.
Changes to Our Privacy Policy
We may update this policy from time to time, and we will provide notice of any such changes as required by law. The date the policy was last updated is identified at the top of the page. We will notify you of changes by updating the "last updated" date and posting the updated policy on the Services. Please check the Services periodically to see the current policy.
